Fill your pipe
Don’t get discouraged if you’re not successful right away. It’s important to be patient and ‘fill your pipe’. Call people, send out emails, leave voicemails. Talk to people, hand out business cards, hand out samples, advertise in newspapers, magazines, journals. Put up flyers, put stickers on your car, put up street signs. Get creative! Do anything to get your product, your message, and your contact details into the hands of as many people as you possibly can.
This is called filling your pipe. It takes a while to do. It takes a while before all your advertising is generating a steady stream of warm leads – of people calling you for more information. I can’t stress how important a 1-800 number is with a good message. Check out mine at 1-800-627-9710 for an example of what I think to be a good voicemail message.
It accomplishes two things:
- Generates excitement and gives the prospect a taste of what they can achieve
- It weeds out people who aren’t really interested. The message is two minutes – if you can’t sit through a two minute phone message, how are you going to handle it when you take two weeks to signup your first person?
