Fill your pipe

Don’t get discouraged if you’re not successful right away.  It’s important to be patient and ‘fill your pipe’.  Call people, send out emails, leave voicemails.  Talk to people, hand out business cards, hand out samples, advertise in newspapers, magazines, journals.  Put up flyers, put stickers on your car, put up street signs.  Get creative!  Do anything to get your product, your message, and your contact details into the hands of as many people as you possibly can.

This is called filling your pipe.  It takes a while to do.  It takes a while before all your advertising is generating a steady stream of warm leads – of people calling you for more information.  I can’t stress how important a 1-800 number is with a good message.  Check out mine at 1-800-627-9710 for an example of what I think to be a good voicemail message.

It accomplishes two things:

  1. Generates excitement and gives the prospect a taste of what they can achieve
  2. It weeds out people who aren’t really interested.  The message is two minutes – if you can’t sit through a two minute phone message, how are you going to handle it when you take two weeks to signup your first person?

Recognize people with the right characteristics

Network marketing is more about sorting than selling. You want the best people in your organization. Figure out what kind of people you want to have in your organization. Personally, I'm looking for people who are coachable, have desire (a reason to build the business), time (at least 6 hours a week), critical thinking skills and enough money to get started.

But don't prejudge! Introduce your product to everyone, even if they're not the 'ideal' candidate.

The first 30 seconds

The first 30 seconds of your phone conversation are the most important. You goal is to do three things:
1. Build rapport with the prospect
2. Inform and excite the prospect about the opportunity
3. Establish whether they are someone you want in your organization

The Power of Network Marketing

People often struggle to understand the power behind network marketing. Some people focus in on just a single aspect of network marketing that is effective. The three I like to refer to are:
1. Leverage - By building a network of distributors you can leverage other people's time and effort. This creates the opportunity for residual income
2. Motivation - As a leader in your organization, you directly benefit from people underneath you doing well. You are motivated to help them, teach them, coach them, and make them succeed.
3. Cost Effective - It's a cost effective way for a company to launch a new product. The majority of their marketing dollars are spent in commissions only when the product is actually sold. These three facets of network marketing combine to make it an extremely powerful way to market and distribute products

Network Marketing Rocks!

But discussion groups about network marketing are full of spam. Valuable network marketing skills are either available 'for just 3 easy payments of $19.99' or limited between an upline and a downline.

So I'm going to try something different. I'm going to share the experiences I have in network marketing, the knowledge I gain. This blog is open to anyone to post on. Anyone who wants to share what they have learnt about network marketing, or links to material they found helpful.

Spam will be deleted. It's okay to mention the company you're involved with, and provide a link to your lead capture website, but please don't post with the sole purpose of pushing your business.

Why am I doing this?
First, because I believe in the power of network marketing. I believe in the fairness of the system, and it's ability to allow ordinary folks like you and I to achieve financial freedom.
Secondly, because I'm frustrated by the lack of good discussion groups about network marketing on the Internet.
And finally, my hope is that through the discussions you will be inspired to take a look at the opportunity I'm offering in the fastest growing network marketing company on the planet.
